A Sure Sign Summer Is Ending

A tradition I have that usually signals the end of summer is attending the Minnesota State Fair.

I went yesterday on opening day and it was a blast! The weather was perfect, and I ate way too much unhealthy food. It's fun to see the animals, watch the parade, go through the different exhibits, watch a live taping of a newscast (my personal favorite thing!) and (of course) eat! A new discovery I found this year was milkshakes at the "Moo Booth." Right outside the cattle barn is this little window where they sell the best milkshakes every created. They are big, cheep, and amazingly good! However, right after I finished my milkshake they had a cow milking demonstration right by the milkshake stand. I decided that was a good time to leave...

Before I went to the fair this year, I was talking to some of my co-workers and friends about it. People from Minnesota love the state fair, but people who aren't from here don't quite get why we love it so much. I've come to the conclusion that the state fair is something that is uniquely Minnesotan. If you're from Minnesota chances are you love the fair (like I do!) If you're from another state, it isn't quite as exciting.

Of course, now that the fair is here, that means class will soon follow. Because Labor Day is so late this year, I have a couple weeks left of break, but soon I'll be back in the classroom starting my last year here at St. Thomas. Something I'm SUPER EXCITED about this fall is the beginning of TommieMedia.com. I'm the student director of the site and it goes live on September 9th, the first day of class. St. Thomas student media will be so far ahead of anything it has ever been before when this website launches. My media staff, the advisers, and many in the St. Thomas community are excited to see this site launch.

Have a great last few days of summer!
