Still studying...
...but not for class.
Hi everybody. Hope your summer is off to a great start. Last week was my first full week that was class-free and it was great. However, I still have to do some studying; only it isn't for a class. In high school I was big into theater. I was involved in many school and community theater productions. However once I started college I kind of let it go by the wayside. However, a friend of mine is directing the upcoming community theater production of "The Wizard of Oz" and wanted me to be in it. I thought it would be fun to get back into it so I agreed to take it on. I've been busy studying the lines of the cowardly lion. Memorizing lines sure is easier than memorizing communication theories or philosophy arguments!
Keeping in touch half a world away
I don't think I ever mentioned this in any of my previous blogs, but two of my good friends from St. Thomas spent the spring semester studying at St. Thomas' Bernardi Campus in Rome, Italy. They are both broadcast journalism majors but are Catholic Studies minors and decided to spend the semester working on that...plus they got to live in Italy for a whole semester! I have been keeping in touch with them with email and Facebook. They are set to come home in ten days. Hopefully they will have a safe journey. It will be fun to have them back on campus in the fall.
The week ahead
This week is my last week working as a producer at my internship with KELO-TV. Next week I will start reporting on the air. I am really excited for that to start! One of the other interns is currently on the reporting part of the internship and it has been hard to watch her go out and get stories while I stay in the newsroom and write. I'll put some of my stuff on my blog for you to watch once I start.
Well not much else to talk about I guess. Better get back to memorizing those lines. Have a good week!

Life outside of school...so far.
Wrap up of Sophomore year
Year number two of college is in the history books. It is strange to think that next year I will be a junior in college. Time really does go by fast in college. It seems like I was just starting my freshman year and now here I am, halfway done with my college career (hopefully!) My last couple of finals were beasts, but I think I was able to tackle them alright. I just have to wait for my final grades to be posted so I can see how I really did.
Summer so far
Summer break so far has been good. Yesterday I started my internship at KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, SD. I will be writing, reporting, and working on the website. It has been good so far. I am working on the morning news show today so I had to be in at 2:00 AM! It is pretty hard getting up at midnight and then driving an hour to work, but once I got here it wasn't too bad.
Well that's about all I have to report. Catch ya later.

A little thing we call "Study Monday"
The best day of the semester
If you can't tell by the title of this blog, today is Study Monday. It's that great little day where there is no class and no finals; it's just a day to take it easy, study a bit, and get prepared for the grueling days ahead! I must admit I am not doing much studying today. I am working all day in the Registrar's Office so I can make some money before heading home for the summer. Having an unpaid internship this semester has made my financial situation frugal at best, but I should make up for it this summer hopefully.
Did I mention free food?
I didn't? Well let me tell you about it. Another great thing about Study Monday is the Late Night Breakfast. It is a free breakfast served in the caf at 10:00pm. The best part about it is the food is served up by UST professors! Heck, if they are the ones making me study late at night, the least they can do it serve up some pancakes and bacon, right? Before the breakfast at 9:00pm is the Study Monday Mass for those people that need a little "additional" help getting ready for finals. I may have to drop by there...
Looking to summer
My last final is on Thursday and I'll be moving back home later that afternoon. I am going to be working at KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, SD as a reporting intern this summer. I am really excited to start there. I worked there last summer and made some great friends. It will be nice to work with them again. I am going to continue my blog during the summer so you will be able to check in every week to see what I'm up to.
That's all for now, have a great week!

I'm sneezing, so the semester must be almost over!
Hey guys,
That's right, I have officially been hit with spring allergies. That is both good news and bad news. The bad news is I'm always sneezing, rubbing my eyes, and blowing my nose. (Too much information? Sorry.) The good news is the semester is just about over! This is the last week of class here at UST. Next week is finals week, that wonderful time of year where you study more than you have all semester, get completely stressed out, and have a giant sigh of relief after your tests are over. I shouldn't sound so negative...there are some positives to finals week. 1) no class 2) study Monday (you will learn to LOVE that day) 3) the late night breakfast (free food served by UST professors!) and 4) being done with school for the summer!
Last Friday was our last SCOPE taping of the semester. It was another great show. I am so proud of the staff this semester. They really stepped it up and did a lot of really hard work to produce great news shows throughout the semester. Friday after the taping we had our annual "SCOPE RAVE" where we all cook a great dinner and recall great times throughout the semester. It was really a lot of fun. I won't be on the SCOPE executive board next year, but I will stay on as a reporter!
This is also my last week at WCCO as an intern. I have really learned a lot while working there and have made some great connections. I even got to be in a news story they did! We did a story on how nice Minnesotans really are. I was dropping boxes and walking around with TP on my shoe to see if anyone would stop to help me. It was a great story to be apart of.
Well I better get back to working on some homework and studying. Those finals are coming up fast. Have a great week!
