Life in the Fast Lane
What’s up guys? Another week has gone by but it seems like it went by really fast. This week was full of projects, homework, work, and internships. I've barely had time to stop and take a breath! Oh well...the weekend is here (almost) and I have some fun things planned.
Cool class...really!
Today I had my Philosophy class. I am really enjoying it. The class is Introduction to Ethics. We discuss different ways of viewing ethical decisions. It may sound kind of boring, but we get into great discussions about topics. You'd be amazed at how many different ways there are to analyze an ethical problem. Our class has even set up a blog so we can discuss things outside of class. It is definitely not your typical college class, but it is one that is required here at UST. That's a great thing about this school, you get to take classes you'd never think of taking and you find out some of them are pretty darn cool.
Live from UST...
Scope has its first taping of the semester TOMORROW! Talk about pressure! Everyone is working really hard to make it a success. The director of the show was sending me emails at 3:00am this morning letting me know what he got done working on and what he had to do yet. I was not up to receive them however. That's the beauty of delegation! We've re-arranged the format of the show, created some cool effects and I think it will be a lot of fun. Taping day is always the best...especially when it's over!
Weekend!
This Saturday my South Africa J-Term class is getting together for our first reunion! I have seen people around campus from the course, but this will be the first time we've all been together since we left the airport. It will be great to see everyone again and share stories. A couple of my friends and I are starting to look at J-Term classes for next January. We're thinking about India. Wonder what my parents will think of that one!
Well I better read up on some history before I call it a night. Two weeks 'til spring break!!
Later,
Shane

Is it June Yet?
I've always been a fan of winter, until this year! It is still bitterly cold up here at UST and walking across campus to class has been a test of strength lately. Hopefully it will start to warm up soon!
This semester is now in full swing and I am really enjoying everything so far. My classes this semester are pretty interesting. I am only taking one communications class that will count towards my majors; the others are counting toward the core curriculum at St. Thomas. I am taking history, social problems, and ethics. They are really making me think in different ways and are proving to be more difficult than I initially thought. In my ethics class we are discussing the meaning of being "moral" and if that meaning even exists. It may sound like pretty deep stuff but once a conversation gets going in class it is hard to leave because it is so interesting.
Outside of class I'm keeping busy with activities and my internship. Campus Scope is going strong again this semester and we will be taping our first episode next Friday. One of the guests on the show will be Dr. Carol Bruess, a communications professor at St. Thomas who recently wrote the book What Happy Couples Do. She has been doing a national press tour with the book, and found time to add Campus Scope to her schedule. We're pretty happy that she will be on the show.
Well I have some sociology homework to do and some history to study for so I better get to it. Have a great weekend!

Studying in the deep freeze
Hey everyone. We're two weeks into the spring semester and it keeps getting colder and colder. The semester has been going pretty good so far, plus it is great being back on campus seeing all my friends.
This week was full of things to do. Last weekend the admissions office held a Tommie for a Day Overnight Stay. I got to take a couple prospective students to my history class. I think they enjoyed it. The lecture that day was pretty interesting. History is not something I enjoy too much, so for me to say it was interesting is saying something! Tuesday we had our first real Scope meeting of the semester. I think it is going to be another successful semester. All the members are excited to get working on stories for the upcoming show. I stayed busy the rest of the time with classes and my internship.
This weekend my dad turned the big 5-0 and my mom planned a surprise birthday party for him. So, I went home this weekend and surprised him at his party. He really enjoyed himself, plus it was fun to hear stories about him when he was younger. It explains so much now... :-)
Next weekend is Red Carpet Weekend at UST. Academically inclined prospective students will be visiting. I have to host a couple students so I'll have some guests living with me Friday night. It should be a good time. Comedy Sportz from Minneapolis is coming to campus that night and we'll go see that. I have been to their theater in Minneapolis a few times and never leave disappointed!
Well that's all I know for now. Have a great week!
