Harvard is now affordable for low-income families

Four years ago Harvard University created a financial aid system that will allow students of low-income families to attend the school for free. Some other Ivy League schools like Princeton and Yale are following this system, but most colleges and universities have not signed on.

Somali grocery finds its niche

After gathering her groceries in a Somali grocery store in South Minneapolis, a Somali woman brought them to the cashier knowing she couldn’t pay cash. After greeting the owner of the store, she was told the total: $200.

Instead of opening her purse, Shamson Hersi, a Minneapolis resident, said: “Write it down. I’ll bring the money Friday when I get my paycheck.” The next customer in line did the same thing.

Building Peace Without the Weapons

Peacekeeping is not just for armies. There are groups that specialize in non-violent intervention in conflict areas all over the world that don’t carry guns, drive tanks or fly fighter planes. One of those groups is headquartered in Minneapolis.
