Fabulous help in the stacks

Yesterday around noon a Circ student worker gave a patron great service. He was shelving or retrieving books in the stacks and encountered a student looking for the New England Journal of Medicine. When they didn’t find the journal there, he found his way to my office to help her out. I pointed out that the year needed was available only on microfiche and he and the patron headed off to the micro room. He came back to follow up on her behalf regarding the equipment and I went to help her further. In any case, I wanted to say he did a great job.

Great work CMS!

Thanks to everyone in CMS who purchases, catalogs, and processes all of the children’s book award winners in a compressed span of time. If you didn’t know, they have to do all this for a group of 35-40 books each year in a timespan of < 4 weeks.

Folks who attend my session at the Hubbs’ conference really appreciate being able to look at the books.

Good web changes Ben and Kevin!

I’d like to thank the WMS people, specifically, Ben and Kevin, for tweaking the E-Reserves access for off-campus patrons. As well as, the new “Find an Open Computer in the Library” feature on the Library’s web site. This is great guys.
Nathan Wunrow

Great presentation Donna and Marianne!

Thanks to Donna and Marianne. Great presentation today. We were all charged about the project and think it would be a great investment in time for us to do it - even comparing our private feeder schools to the public. Maybe there are ways other could help do the research? Nice presentation

Thanks for last minute help Eric

Kudos to Eric for filling in at the very last minute on Friday morning, March 20th, when no one else was able to come in to work at the reference desk. Way to go, Eric!

Earl helped an author

I had the advantage in all of my writing through the acquaintance with Earl Belisle in the University of St. Thomas Library. He was a great help in my search of records and resources. He could produce data in a fraction of the time I would have had to spend.”

Great Library Week

My thanks go to Julie, Dan Eller, Shiromi Beach, Eric Kallas, Sheila Hague, Brian Hill, Diane Knights, JoAnn Toussaint, Nathan Wunrow, Earl Belisle, Karen Batdorf, Andrea Koeppe, Linda Hulbert, Lisa Dochniak, John Heintz and all others who helped develop such a great NLW last week. There were several highlights for me – the books domino thing, the Larry McDonough concert, the golf (at OSF, and I’m sure the Keffer was just as good…) and the reception for faculty…

Hooray for Carolyn's persistence!

It took almost 2 months of persistence to get the GVRL databases working for everyone from every place! I know the students will benefit from the hard work and perserverance Carolyn contributed to this problem. Thanks for your hard work Carolyn!

CMS staff are very supportive

Many thanks to my cohorts in CMS. I'm not sure I would have survived my first year without their advise and guidance. Special thanks to Lisa R. for all her help with book ordering this winter. What a great group of people to work with!

Shiromi is very helpful!

An outside patron needing to make photocopies was in the library having difficulty. Shriomi spent about 5 minutes helping him out and explaining the differences between the copiers on first level. He was very appreciative of the quality help he recieved from someone knowledgeable and patient; someone who is in place to provide the necessary answer right away.

Well done, everyone! Dan

I have been here at St Thomas for about 7 years and have used CLICnet on occasion. I went to your open house today to see what I could learn. I was surprised to see it was located in the small room to the left as you walk in. I though that we might be shown the different areas of the library and what they had to offer.

What I found was a great deal of information on the different areas of the library. I was with a coworker and we stopped at each of the tables and I learned some very interesting things that I did not know before from each person I talked to. And we stopped at each table. Every person graciously offered information about their area and an invitation to stop in and ask for help if we needed it. They were more than willing to answer all questions – and explain more when I didn’t understand.

So this library that I consider a valuable tool for our students can also be a valuable tool for me; both in person and on line. Thank you for having this open house. It was fun and informative.

Thanks to Susan for the open house idea!

Many thanks to Susan for coming up with the idea for the staff open house and her extra work in organizing this event. I hear it went well at OSF and we all at Keffer believe ours was a great success as well. Thanks again!

Brian makes great scones.

It's so nice of him to bring treats in for us!

Thanks to retreat organizers

My thanks to the group which did most of the planning for today’s retreat. I’ve heard good things so far. The Assessment committee consists of Jan Orf, Andrea Koeppe, Conie Borchardt, Janice Kragness, Linda Hulbert, Mary Lou Schmidt and myself. I’d like to thank Julie for her work in making the arrangements at the Center for the Open Book which is a great place for us to meet. Thanks to all who came and participated. Please send us your comments so that we can continue to work on retreats and gatherings that make sense and are useful to you all. Dan

Hooray Julie!

Thanks to Julie Kimlinger, the person behind so many library events. Smoothly, uncomplainingly, competently, she works to make our library functions a success.

Thanks to the group planning and setting up the Staff Open House!

I appreciate the ability and willingness of this group to run with the ball for this event! Good work, Susan, Andrea, Jo Ann, Earl and all those presenting at the event on January 28! Diane
