Servant Leadership Forum on April 21
When leaders serve themselves instead of those who have entrusted them to lead, it can result in the problems we are seeing on Wall Street. What is the purpose of leadership? Does it evolve as the times change? What is the role of leadership in creating high performance organizations built on enduring ethical cultures?
Please join us on Tuesday, April 21 for a public forum focused on Servant Leadership where we will explore the concept of servant leadership and its application in the turbulent times we face today.
The forum will begin with Ron James – President and CEO of the Center for Ethical Business Cultures, sharing his thoughts on Ethical Culture: The Connection to Servant Leadership. Following James’ remarks, Kent Keith – CEO of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership, will lay the foundation for The Case for Servant Leadership. Founded in 1964, the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership is an international non-profit organization advancing the “understanding and practice of servant leadership” and is credited with coining the phrase “servant-leader” that launched the servant leadership movement.
Following Keith’s remarks, a distinguished panel will guide the discussion from “principle and theory” to “practice and application”. The Servant Leadership in Action panel features:
Ken Melrose – Former Chairman and CEO of The Toro Company and author of Making the Grass Greener on Your Side (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 1995) who led the company in its decision to build a culture of servant leadership with values focused on both performance and people. Melrose is President of Leading By Serving, LLC and also the Chair of the Center for Ethical Business Cultures.
Kent Keith – CEO of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership and author of The Case for Servant Leadership (Greenleaf Center Press, 2008).
James Sipe – Senior Consultant at PDI Ninth House and co-author of Seven Pillars of Servant Leadership: Practicing the Wisdom of Leading by Serving (Paulist Press, 2009).
Don Frick – Robert Greenleaf’s biographer and co-author of Seven Pillars for Servant Leadership: Practicing the Wisdom of Leading by Serving (Paulist Press, 2009).
Moderated by Ron James, the panel discussion is designed to encourage interaction between the panel and members of the audience.
