Are you interested in spending a week to 10 days studying abroad? We have trips scheduled for J-term and spring 2008. Trips are planned for London, Berlin, and Belgium/Luxembourg/Germany. Keep reading for more information....
The FINC752 class to London in J-term 2008 is full. Students may be added to the waitlist, but it is unlikely that spaces will open up.
The BUSN714 class to Berlin for J-term 2008 is also full. Students are still being added to the waitlist, however. Contact Deb Cornell at dlcornell@stthomas.edu for more information.
There is a BLAW714 (Business, Law and Ethics in the European Union) class scheduled for spring 2008. Travel will be to Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. Enrollment is limited to 15 students.

FINC 752: Global Financial Services in LONDON (January 12-19, 2008)
Globalization is a phenomenon affecting all businesses. FINC 752 provides students with a focused look at one industry, insurance, and the aspect of globalization on it. Subjects covered will include integration of insurance into financial services, regulation, competitive strategies and business law. While this course is designed for those with a specific interest in insurance and financial services, students with a general interest in international business will find it offers an extended case study on globalization - case study that can be applied to all businesses.
Prerequisites: FINC600 and familiarity with insurance industry helpful

Course Description: Increasingly, nation-based economies are superseded by regions, and businesses are challenged to operate on a global stage. Evolving business strategies reflect the emergence of economic regions as firms seek international product, raw material and labor markets and define their competitors, customers, brands and organizations globally. Global business platforms that affect government and international politics in the post-national era, call for global vision and global leadership skills, leverage global brands and technology for growth, and thus give rise to new economies in borderless regions, if not yet a borderless world.
Prerequisites: Evening UST MBA Students: DSCI600, GBEC600, ACCT601, BETH601, MGMT600
Full-time UST MBA Students: Completed 1st year
MBC Students: Permission from Program Manager/Advisor

BLAW 714: Business, Law and Ethics in the European Union (May 19-31, 2008)
This course combines classes in the US with a study abroad and face-to-face negotiation of a simulated business transaction with German students from a German university. The course surveys US, foreign, and international law as it relates to cross border business transactions including: commercial dispute resolution, trade regulation, contracting for the sale of goods, documentary transactions and trade finance, intellectual property and licensing, and business ethics and corporate social responsibility.
The primary project for the course is an export/import contract UST students negotiate with students from the Fachhochschule (University of Applied Sciences) in Trier, Germany.
Three classroom sessions prior to your departure for Europe. (Minneapolis):
Session 1: 9:00 am – noon, February 23, 2008
Session 2: 9:00 am – noon; 1 – 4 pm, March 29, 2008
Session 3: 9:00 am – noon; 1 – 4 pm, April 19, 2008
May 19 – May 31 travel to and study in Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany.
